Trezor.io/Start® | Start Your Device Secure

Welcome to the official Trezor Start Guide — your trusted resource for initializing and securely using your Trezor hardware wallet. If you're just getting started with cryptocurrency or are moving to a more secure storage solution, this guide will walk you through every step.

🔐 What Is Trezor?

Trezor is a hardware wallet developed by SatoshiLabs that stores your private keys offline, away from hackers, viruses, and phishing attempts. Unlike software wallets, your Trezor device never exposes your private keys, making it one of the most secure ways to store digital assets.

🧭 Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/Start

Go to https://trezor.io/start to begin. The page will automatically detect your Trezor device model and offer the correct setup instructions.

💡 Step 2: Connect Your Device

  1. Plug your Trezor device into your computer using the provided USB cable.
  2. Wait for the browser to detect the device.
  3. Download the Trezor Suite or use the Web Suite for instant setup.

We recommend installing the Trezor Suite desktop app for optimal security and offline usage. Alternatively, you can use the Web Suite.

📥 Step 3: Install Firmware

Trezor devices ship without firmware. This protects users from tampered devices. When prompted:

🔐 Step 4: Create a New Wallet

Once firmware is installed, you'll be asked to either:

To create a secure wallet:

  1. Select “Create New Wallet”
  2. Confirm wallet generation on your Trezor device
  3. Proceed to backup your Recovery Seed

📝 Step 5: Backup Your Recovery Seed

This step is critical. Your 12 or 24-word seed phrase is the only way to restore your wallet if your Trezor is lost or stolen.

Important Rules:

📱 Step 6: Set Up a PIN Code

To protect physical access, set up a device PIN:

The PIN is required every time you plug in your Trezor. After multiple wrong attempts, the device will delay inputs — eventually wiping the device after 16 failed tries.

📦 Step 7: Receive and Store Crypto

  1. Open Trezor Suite
  2. Select the coin you want to receive (e.g., BTC, ETH, USDT)
  3. Click “Receive”
  4. Verify the address on your Trezor screen
  5. Send funds from your exchange or another wallet

Always confirm addresses on your Trezor device — never trust what’s shown on your screen alone.

📤 Sending Crypto Securely

To send crypto using Trezor Suite:

  1. Click “Send” and enter the recipient address
  2. Enter the amount and choose a fee
  3. Confirm transaction details on your device screen

Transactions are only signed inside the Trezor, keeping your private keys offline and secure at all times.

💡 Bonus Features

Hidden Wallets

You can create “hidden wallets” by enabling passphrase protection. This adds a second layer of access requiring a phrase only you know. Each passphrase generates a completely separate wallet.

Labeling

Using Dropbox integration, you can label accounts, addresses, and transactions for easier tracking.

Coin Control

Advanced users can select specific coins or UTXOs to send. This is useful for tax management and privacy.

🔄 Backup and Recovery

If you lose your Trezor or reset it, you can restore your funds using your recovery seed:

  1. Get a new Trezor or reset your existing one
  2. Choose “Recover wallet”
  3. Enter your recovery phrase word by word

This will restore your wallet and all associated coins exactly as before.
